I Just Wasn’t Sure How I Wanted to Feel

On Friday morning I found myself standing in front of my fragrance collection for much longer than usual.

Normally I know almost immediately what I feel like wearing.

Not that morning.

I picked up one bottle.

“No…”

Another.

“Not today.”

Another.

Still nothing.

I was due to meet a group of friends for a walk. It was still dark outside.

Cold enough that, if I’m honest, I’d much rather have climbed back into bed where it was warm and comfortable.

Instead, I was about to meet a group of friends for an early morning walk in the park.

Eventually my eye settled on a bottle I hadn’t worn in quite a while.

It’s a fragrance I usually reserve for what my grandmother used to call “high days and holidays.”

Dinner with friends.

Special occasions.

The sort of fragrance that somehow feels a little too important for an ordinary day.

I picked it up almost absent-mindedly.

A couple of sprays.

Immediately I smiled.

That was exactly what I had been looking for.

Not because it suited the occasion.

Because it suited me.

That walk got me thinking.

People often ask me why anyone would need more than one fragrance.

It’s a fair question.

If you find one you love…

Why not just wear that every day?

I think Friday morning gave me the answer.

A fragrance wardrobe isn’t really a wardrobe of scents.

It’s a wardrobe of emotions.

A wardrobe of different versions of you.

Some mornings we need a little energy.

Some days we need confidence.

Sometimes we want to feel grounded.

Other times we feel playful.

Reflective.

Adventurous.

Comfortable.

Optimistic.

We’re not the same version of ourselves every day.

Why would we expect one fragrance to fit every version of us?

I’ve come to realise that I’m rarely choosing a fragrance because of what I want other people to smell.

More often, I’m choosing it because of how I want to feel.

On Friday morning, I didn’t need a “walking fragrance.”

I needed something that made getting out into the cold, dark morning feel like an adventure instead of a chore.

That fragrance did exactly that.

Nothing about the weather changed.

The walk was exactly the same.

But somehow…

I stepped out the front door feeling different.

That’s the quiet magic of a fragrance wardrobe.

It isn’t about owning lots of bottles.

It isn’t about collecting perfume.

It’s about having different companions for different moments in life.

Some fragrances become your armour.

Some become your comfort.

Some remind you of who you’ve been.

Others encourage you towards who you’re becoming.

The older I get, the more I realise that fragrance isn’t simply something I wear.

It’s part of how I prepare for the day.

A small ritual.

A subtle shift.

A way of stepping into the version of myself I need that morning.

If You’re Curious to Explore That

One of the joys of building a fragrance wardrobe isn’t owning more perfume.

It’s discovering how different fragrances quietly change the way you experience different days.

You don’t need dozens of bottles.

Just a little variety.

Enough to match the many different moments that make up a life.

You can start with:

  • 5 × 2ml samples for R100
  • 3 × 10ml fragrances for R200

Or, if you’ve already found a few favourites:

  • Any 3 × 50ml fragrances for R675 to begin building a wardrobe you’ll enjoy reaching for.

We’re not different people.

We’re the same person…

Living different days.

And sometimes, we want to feel differently.

Until next time
