Before Difficult Days, I Always Reach for the Same One

I only really noticed the pattern recently.

Before difficult days, I almost always reach for the same fragrance.

Not consciously at first.

Just instinctively.

A difficult meeting.

A stressful conversation.

A day where I know I’ll need to be particularly patient, focused or emotionally steady.

Without really thinking about it, my hand reaches for the same bottle.

It’s not necessarily my most expensive fragrance.

Not even my favourite, if I’m being honest.

And it’s certainly not the one that gets the most compliments.

But it does something else.

It settles me.

Over the years I’ve come to realise that fragrance is often less about how we smell…

And more about how we feel.

Some scents energise us.

Some feel nostalgic.

Some feel relaxed and easy.

And some quietly make us feel more capable.

Almost like emotional armour.

Not in a dramatic way.

Perfume doesn’t suddenly transform you into a different person.

But it can help you step more comfortably into the version of yourself you need that day.

I think most people already do this instinctively.

They just don’t always realise it.

You wear something brighter when you want to feel fresh and optimistic.

Something warmer when you need comfort.

Something sharper when you need confidence.

Over time, certain fragrances quietly become attached to certain emotional states.

Not because we planned it.

But because our brains are constantly forming associations.

And eventually, those associations become ritual.

That’s why fragrance wardrobes make so much sense to me.

Not because anyone needs dozens of perfumes.

But because life asks different things of us at different moments.

Some days call for softness.

Some call for confidence.

Some call for familiarity.

And occasionally…

Some call for armour.

I’ve also realised something else.

The fragrances we lean on during difficult periods often become some of the most meaningful ones we own.

Because eventually, they stop reminding us of the difficult day itself…

And start reminding us that we got through it.

If You’re Curious to Explore That

One of the most interesting parts of fragrance is discovering how different scents affect your mood and mindset.

Not just how they smell.

But how they make you feel.

Some become uplifting.

Some grounding.

Some quietly reassuring.

And occasionally, one becomes the scent you reach for before difficult days.

That’s why we always encourage exploration.

Not to find one perfect fragrance.

But to build a small wardrobe that supports different parts of your life.

You can start small:

  • 5 × 2ml samples for R100
  • 3 × 10ml fragrances for R200

Or, if you already know the styles you enjoy:

  • Any 3 × 50ml fragrances for R675 to build a more complete wardrobe

Sometimes…

The fragrance we wear isn’t there to impress anyone else.

It’s there to help steady us.

Until next time
