He Almost Told Her to Step Back. Then Everything Changed.

It was one of those ordinary days — errands to run, stuff to do, a few things to pick up, nothing special on the agenda.

Hmm which one? he thought. Eeny meeny miny moe, he reached for one he hadn’t worn in a while, feeling like a bit of a change. A few spritzes and he headed for the door.

Scent is like music he thought, different day, different tunes.

Crickey, it was hot and he had been in and out of the car pretty well the whole day.

“Last stop and then I’m going to get a coffee Freezo” he promised himself.

“Damn, there is never parking here,” he mumbled as he searched for a parking spot close by. The only spot is like three blocks away. Anyhoo. He locks the car and heads off to claim his cool treat. “This better be worth it”. Little did he know.

“Ag no man, looks like I’m not the only one with this idea” he grumbles looking at the queue. He joins the back of the line. Everyone is in their own worlds, mesmerised by their phones. He follows suit, puts in one of his airpods and presses play, continuing with the podcast he’d been listening to.

His focus gets pulled back to the present, the person behind him feels way too close for comfort. He shuffles forward a bit, They also shuffled forward. “No man this is ridiculous, doesn’t this person know about personal space” he thinks, slightly annoyed.

He starts to turn with every intention of telling this fool to step back a bit.

“What are you wearing?” she says smiling but looking slightly embarrassed. “What is that smell?”

His gaze settles on eyes he was not expecting. He knows he’s now wearing his stupid face, feels the embarrassment start to rise.

She sees his discomfort. “Sorry — that came out wrong, you smell really good” clearly debating whether she should have said anything at all.

“Oh wow! I wasn’t expecting that. I was about to tell you where to get off. “ he replies, feeling somewhat awkward.

“I’m sorry” she laughs. “I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable. I was trying to be surreptitious, but that really is an amazing scent” she says blushing heavily now.

“It’s ok, people sniff me all the time” he replies, smiling and teasing her.

“I’m Mark by the way. Mark the sweet smelling”

“Sarah. Sarah the embarrassed” she replies, smiling and looking relieved.

“Well Sarah, it’s good to meet you. Can I buy you a coffee? I was about to treat myself after what has been a hot and somewhat uneventful day, until just now.”

“That would be lovely thank you, I’d like that” she replied

And so began the romance of Mark and Sarah.

When asked later by a friend what on earth possessed her to sniff a stranger in the coffee queue, she replied “I don’t know. I just felt drawn, I had to”.

That was 10 years ago.

Romance has no logic, no structure. Some of the best romances have started just like this out of unexpected awkward encounters. You just never know when it’s going to happen to you.

It’s easy to think moments like this are about confidence, or timing, or fate.

But very often, they begin somewhere quieter.

Scent works before we’ve had time to think.

Before logic. Before manners. Before we decide whether something makes sense.

It slips past the part of us that plans and weighs things up, and goes straight to memory, feeling, instinct. That’s why it can pull someone closer without a single word being spoken. Why it can turn an ordinary queue on an ordinary day into the beginning of a story that lasts ten years and still going.

We like to believe romance has rules.

But more often than not, it starts exactly like this — unplanned, slightly awkward, and sparked by something we can’t quite explain.

Sometimes, a scent opens the door. It softens us. Lowers our guard. Makes us feel just a little more like ourselves — and a little more willing to be seen.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, it’s worth remembering:

Scent often brings out the version of you that’s ready for possibility. You just need to give yourself the chance.

When Scent Invites, Not Announces

Some fragrances make an entrance.

They announce themselves from across the room.

Others do something quieter.

They sit closer. They linger. They invite.

The scents that tend to start conversations aren’t usually the loudest or the boldest. They’re the ones that feel warm, familiar, human — fragrances that don’t try too hard, but somehow feel just right in the moment.

They move with you.

They leave space for curiosity.

They give someone a reason to lean in just a little closer.

That kind of scent doesn’t shout for attention.

It creates comfort. And comfort is often where attraction begins.

If You’re Choosing a Scent for Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s doesn’t have to be loud or over-planned.

Often, the most meaningful gestures are the ones that leave room for discovery.

A fragrance can say a lot without spelling everything out.

It can invite closeness. Create a memory. Open a door.

That’s why, for Valentine’s Day, we’re gently guiding people toward choice rather than certainty.

That’s exactly why we put together our Collections of 10ml fragrances, just perfect for Valentines Day

It’s not about finding the scent.

It’s about exploring a small wardrobe of scents designed for closeness — different moods, different expressions, all centred around connection rather than performance.

Whether you’re choosing for yourself or someone you care about, a collection like this gives space to experiment, to notice, and to let instinct do what it does best.
