It’s funny how certain songs drift in and out of your life.
There are songs you listen to endlessly for months.
Songs attached to road trips, relationships, holidays, certain years of your life.
At first, you play them constantly.
Then one day, without really noticing, you stop.
Not because you dislike them.
Not because they stopped being good.
You just… move on.
Then years later, you’re driving somewhere ordinary.
The radio is on in the background.
And suddenly, there it is.
That song.
Within seconds you find yourself thinking:
Hang on…
This is actually a really great song.
You hear things you’d forgotten.
A lyric.
A riff.
A feeling.
And by the time you get home, you’ve already searched for it on Spotify and added it back into your rotation.
Fragrance works much the same way.
There are scents we absolutely love for a period of time.
We wear them constantly.
They become part of our everyday rhythm.
And then eventually, almost without meaning to, we stop reaching for them.
Not because they became bad.
Not because we suddenly disliked them.
Sometimes we simply needed a bit of distance.
And then, months or years later, you come across that fragrance again.
Maybe at the back of a cupboard.
Maybe on someone else.
Maybe while browsing through old bottles.
And suddenly you remember.
Oh yes…
This is really good.
Sometimes even better than you remembered.
I think part of the reason is familiarity.
When we experience something too often, we stop noticing it properly.
It fades into the background a little.
Not because it lost its magic.
But because we became too accustomed to it.
Time resets that.
Distance sharpens appreciation again.
That’s one of the reasons I’m such a believer in fragrance wardrobes and rotation.
Not just for variety.
But because absence has a strange way of restoring affection.
A scent you wear every single day eventually becomes part of the wallpaper.
A scent you revisit after time away often feels exciting again.
Fresh again.
Interesting again.
And sometimes…
It reconnects you to a completely different period of your life.
That’s the beautiful thing about scent.
It doesn’t just carry fragrance.
It carries memory too.
One of the easiest ways to keep fragrance interesting is simply to rotate what you wear.
Different scents for different moods.
Different seasons.
Different versions of yourself.
Something fresh and easy.
Something warmer and nostalgic.
Something you wear when you need a little confidence.
That’s why we always encourage exploration rather than chasing one “perfect” fragrance.
You can start small:
Or, if you already know the styles you enjoy:
Sometimes…
You don’t realise how much you loved something…
Until you come back to it.
Until next time
