The Nerdy Kid Who Became the Most Popular Boy in School

Some years ago, we used to have a young customer who would visit our stand at a Christmas market.

He couldn’t have been more than twelve or thirteen.

He would arrive with a friend in tow and, with surprising confidence, start making suggestions.

“This one will suit you.”

“No, that’s too heavy.”

“Try this instead.”

It was unusual.

Most kids his age weren’t thinking about fragrance at all.

He was.

And not just casually.

He paid attention.

At the time, it was easy to smile at.

A slightly niche hobby for a young boy.

A bit different.

Every year he would come back.

I got to watch him on this journey as he developed his knowledge of scents and his understanding of what to wear and when.

He was curious and always open to experiment.

As he got older and started entering the dating world…

That same “unusual” interest suddenly became very relevant.

Because while most people his age were still figuring it out.

Some not wearing anything at all…

Others wearing things that didn’t suit them…

He already understood something they didn’t.

He knew how to smell the part.

From being the nerdy outsider, he was suddenly the envy of the other boys in his class.

It’s something I’ve been reminded of again recently.

My daughters have just started entering that same phase of life.

And one of the things they comment on, quite often, is how few people their age actually smell good.

Some don’t wear anything at all.

Some are pretty smelly and definitely should.

And others wear fragrances that just don’t quite fit.

Very few get it right.

People often dismiss it.

It matters.

More than people think.

It’s not always the most obvious things that make someone attractive.

Not just how they look.

Not just what they say.

Sometimes it’s something far more subtle.

A presence.

A feeling.

Something that’s hard to explain but easy to notice.

And scent plays a role in that.

A bigger role than most people realise.

The people who get it right don’t necessarily wear better fragrances.

They’re just paying attention.

To what suits them.

To how it shows up.

To when it works — and when it doesn’t.

It’s not about getting it perfect.

It’s about being aware.

And over time, that awareness compounds.

What starts out as something small…

Becomes something that quietly sets you apart.

A kind of advantage.

Not loud.

Not obvious.

But noticeable.

Almost like a superpower.

If You’re Curious to Explore That

This is something you don’t really figure out in one go.

It comes from trying different scents.

Wearing them in different situations.

Noticing what works.

Getting a sense of what really suits you — and what makes you feel less confident.

Something lighter for everyday.

Something with a bit more presence when it matters.

Something that just feels right.

That’s why we always encourage a bit of exploration.

Start small and explore:

  • 5 × 2ml samples for R100 — experience a range, see what develops
  • 3 × 10ml fragrances for R200 — start building your personal rotation

Or, if you already know what works for you:

  • Bundle any 3 × 50ml fragrances for only R675 and build a more complete wardrobe with intention

Because sometimes…

The difference isn’t in the fragrance.

It’s in the attention you give it.

Until next time
