What’s the Best Perfume? Why That’s the Wrong Question

Something we are often asked is “What is your best perfume?”

This is obviously impossible to answer as it’s so subjective, but I often see articles that single out fragrances as the best for something – Season, Style, Age etc.

As people we love the idea of being associated with the best, so it’s very appealing to know that you are wearing the best Winter fragrance or the best fresh scent and so on. The problem is how does one define the best for something like perfume? Even quality can be subjective.

We can give guidance on where to start and how to approach things, but ultimately it’s you who will be wearing the fragrance, you need to decide for yourself.

We are busy with a new offering which we are calling Collections. Here we have put together collections of 5 scents around a theme. For each of the scent families and then for 19 different styles. The idea around this is to provide you with some guidance for you to try new and different perfumes. You can then decide which ones are best for you.

A customer asked me this week for a selection of men’s fragrances. It was his son’s 16th birthday and he wanted to give him a range of scents to try. I suggested giving him scents across a wide range of scents as he didn’t have any favourites yet and the idea was to give him as wide a palette as we could in 6 fragrances.

4006 Versace pour homme blends citrus with florals woods and amber for a sophisticated vibe. Legend is fresh and clean. Terre D’Hermes is a classic woody scent that pairs pretty well with anything. A*Men introduces some sweetness to the mix. Red tobacco is an easy to wear spicy scent. Ombre Nomade is an interesting interpretation of the classic pairing of oud and rose.

Some mixing and matching with fragrance layering and one can get at least another 4 great scents out of this selection. In my view this is a great place to start.
